Zine Maker
A photography zine focused on walking, looking, and place. Japanese photo zine inspired. Built for the web, designed for the eye.
BlockWalk’s voice is editorial, not marketing. A zine is allowed to be irregular, scrappy, idiosyncratic, and hand-made. The format gives permission to publish small things, photograph-and-caption things, and half-finished things.
The Zine Maker is an upcoming feature to publish photo essays, reviews, and short notes directly from your walks. It is part of our commitment to organizing the slow part of photography: showing up, walking, and paying attention.
What to expect
- Photo essays — Long sequences from real walks, minimal copy, captions as connective tissue.
- Photobook reviews — Written from a photographer’s perspective, not a critic’s. What a book teaches us about looking.
- Photographer interviews — Long-form pieces with photographers you meet on the street.
- Field notes — A single image, a single paragraph. The escape valve that keeps the zine alive.
Typography and Layout
Typography does work. The zine has to look like a zine, not like a generic blog template. We are prioritizing image-first layouts where photographs are not illustrations for text — they are the content.
With generous margins, a long measure for body text, and full-bleed images, the Zine Maker will respect the visual bar of discerning photographers.
